From Installation to Maintenance: A Complete Guide to Hot Tubs

a group of people enjoy a soak after hot tub installation and set up

Figuring out installation and maintenance for a hot tub doesn’t have to be rocket science. At Tredway Pools, our experts work every day to ensure that your spa ownership experience is as simple and enjoyable as you imagined.

Using our quick guide, you will be prepared for ALL of the basic steps of owning a hot tub

Hot Tub Installation

Once you have shopped in one of our stores and our associates have helped you to select the perfect spa for your space and needs, you may have to wait a bit for your hot tub to be delivered.

While we understand that you are excited about your hot tub’s arrival, trust us, you will need that time to prepare your space!

Start by making sure you have appropriate electrical connectivity installed where the electrical components of your new spa need to be connected. Ideally, place your hot tub’s location close to a water source as well.

You will also want to have a pad in place to rest your tub on.

This can come in a variety of forms, including having a poured concrete pad, pavers, or wood, depending on the look you are going for. Always feel free to ask our experts for guidance if needed to select the perfect location and pad for your new hot tub.

Plus, think about any extras you want, like landscaping, storage, privacy walls, etc., around the space as well.

Then make sure there is a clear path on delivery day so that you can put your spa in place.

Initial Hot Tub Setup

On delivery day, after your tub is placed, it is a good idea to wipe everything down and make sure the surfaces are clean. Either plug in your plug-and-play spa or schedule your electrician on installation day for final electrical connectivity. Then begin filling your new spa with water. Keep in mind that this could take quite a while.

Once your tub is full, you can add the startup water care we will provide you with.

Start those jets, and allow the chemicals to incorporate and the water to warm before taking a dip. This will ensure that your water stays balanced more easily.

Hot Tub Maintenance

After the initial setup, you will need to keep your tub maintained. This means testing the water around once a week and using whichever chemicals are indicated on the test strip or kit.

You will also want to spray down the filters during this test session to keep things fresh and clean. Using a hot tub cover can greatly help in this endeavor as well.

Be prepared to do a complete drain and refill every three to four months, and a deeper clean of the shell and cabinet at least once or twice a year.

You can use these opportunities to deep clean your filter and wipe down the water line and cover.
