Grilling for a Crowd: Planning and Cooking for Large Gatherings

Summer is here, which means it’s time to host outdoor gatherings and conquer grilling for a crowd!

The experts at Tredway Pools know nothing brings people together like good food, and there’s no better way to prepare meals for a large group than grilling. If you are worried that you can’t conquer the challenge, then you are in the right place because Tredway Pools is here to save the day.

Plan Ahead When Grilling for a Crowd

The key to successfully grilling for a crowd is planning a guest list and deciding on a menu sooner rather than later.

Make sure to consider dietary restrictions or allergies your guests may have.

Choose dishes that can be prepped ahead of time and cooked on the grill at the last minute. This will help you stay organized and ensure that everything is ready when guests arrive. For fun ideas, check out this playlist for numerous exciting grill recipes.

When shopping for your ingredients, buy in bulk to save money. List everything you need and head to your local grocery store or farmer’s market.

If you need to figure out how much food to buy, a good rule of thumb is to plan for about a pound of food per person.

Prepare Your Grill

Before cooking, ensure your grill is clean and in good condition. Give it a thorough cleaning to remove any leftover debris from previous cookouts.

Check the propane tank or charcoal supply, and have enough gas and charcoal during cooking.

If you’re using your Primo® charcoal grill, start the fire early, so it has time to reach the right temperature.

For your Saber® gas grill, preheat the grill for at least 10-15 minutes before you start cooking. This will help ensure your food cooks evenly and prevents sticking to the grates.

Cooking for a Crowd

When it’s time to start cooking, remember that cooking for a crowd differs from cooking for just a few people. You’ll need to adjust your cooking times and methods accordingly.

Start by cooking the items that take the longest, like large cuts of meat or whole chicken. This will give you ample time to finish cooking the rest of the food.

Keep the lid closed as much as possible when cooking on the grill. This helps retain heat and cook the food evenly.

Using a meat thermometer is also essential to ensure that your food is cooked to a safe temperature. The last thing you want is to make your guests sick!
